Shield Making Part 2

Shields finished for Josephs birthday party and I finished a bonus project of a baldric and scabbard to carry his foam sword in.  The scabbard was a special request from Joseph and luckily I had some scrap wood sitting around that was easy to work for the project.

Window seat and music storage

IMG_20150725_214849Sarah has always wanted a window seat. She also needed an area to store her sheet music for choir, piano teaching and show tunes. So I came up with a solution that fills both roles. For the base I used an Ikea Kallax Shelving Unit and placed it on the ground horizontally. I just really didn’t feel like building that part of the project. For the top portion I simply took two 2×4 pine boards and cut them down to the size I wanted (58 inches). I then cut four cross pieces to be 19 inches in length. I countersunk in the screes to connect the boards into a frame. I then painted the frame white. Across the top I placed four boards (1×6) that I had cut to 59 inches in length and stained. I attached them with finish nails and I also placed wood glue on the 2×4 boards they rested on. Overall, I am pretty happy with the finished project.

Tech Sights for my Ruger 10/22

I  had the M1 Replica sights from E. Arthur Brown. They looked really good but I had difficulty with the sloppiness of the movement on the front sight. Some lock tight would have fixed that but I didn’t really plan to keep them too long. The lack of adjustment was also a No-Go. I liked the sight picture I got with them over the factory sights but it was mostly a cosmetic improvement. When you do a comparison the Replica sights do resemble the M1 Carbine sights more.

I just got around to replacing the Replica sights with TSR100 Sights. They are a Father’s Day gift from my wife. I like the TSR100 due to them having a similar adjustment to the M16. I also like having the ability to flip the rear sight for longer range targets. The TSR200 Sights also look nice but I prefer having the flip rear sight on the TSR100 over the adjustable rear elevation on the TSR200.

For those that haven’t seen my rifle before, I also have an M1 Carbine Tribute Stock on it. I like that a whole lot. It feels very good in weight and fits nicely against my shoulder. It also looks darn good with the classic look and sling. The stock is so solid, I feel like I could buttstroke someone in a pinch without harming the rifle.

Looking for a Specialized Rockhopper FS

Speacialized_RockhopperAbout ten years ago I sadly had my mountain bike stolen and while there have been many improvements in mountain bikes, I’m looking for the same model and size of bike that I once had (blame nostalgia). I figure I could find one that’s cheap and do some repairs and upgrades as needed.

For the first couple years that I owned my old bike, I would use it as both for my primary transportation and for riding some trails. I had two odometers on the thing and the first died after 1,200 miles and the second after 1,500 miles.

I got a lot of good miles out of the thing and I really loved riding it. The rapid fire gear shift was awesome and it just had a great feel riding it. I later bought an average Walmart bike but it just wasn’t the same and I’ve never been a fan of those to begin with.

Here are the specs on the Bike according to BikePedia: 1999 Specialized Rockhopper FS; Complete specs

According to BicycleBlueBook.com the bike should go for $112-$188.

If anyone reading this sees one with a 17″ frame, please let me know. I would be interested in purchasing one.
