September Lawn San Antonio

So it’s finally cooling down below 90 degrees in San Antonio. This makes it a great time to get some yard work done. The ten day forecast will be your best friend for accomplishing this for the next bit as there is rain on the schedule and some lawn care benefits from rain while others don’t.

First things first get out there and mow your lawn while it’s still dry. I took my lawn down a 1/4 lower than my normal summer cut to lower it from the length I let it get to to survive the heat. I also placed a ton of stuff down. I used my spreader to place down pre-emergent herbicide (to prevent weeds), granule insecticide (to kill/prevent ground burrowing insects), and granule fertilizer (to feed the lawn for the rest of fall). I also sprayed with hose end sprayers liquid fertilizer (light spray to give a quick boost), fungicide (for plants vulnerable to fungus), and insecticide (to kill/control above ground insects).

The liquid insecticide normally provides longer lasting above ground control but with rain on the forecast the next two days will wash it away. I still wanted to kill anything in the yard at the moment. Looking at the forecast I didn’t spray any hose end weed killers as it works best with a couple days of no rain. Thursday looks like a good day to spray that if the three day window of dry weather comes through there. On the other hand all the granule stuff I put down should do great as the rain will water it in the next few days… as long as the weather comes through as predicted. If not then I have to water it in.

This should give you an idea of some things you should do for your lawn if you want to keep it in healthy shape let me know if you have any questions.

Spring Lawn Guide San Antonio

Thought I’d change things up and do a video this time. There is a lot you can do in your own yard while some are getting more time at home. Ask questions for any of the stuff I missed. No time? Talk to one of the many lawn/garden professionals we have living in our neighborhood and they can probably provide service with very little contact as we are in this social distance time.

Winter Weeds

Some of you all are having issues with Winter weeds taking over your yard as we are in the back and forth weather prior to spring. Lets takes some steps to clear that up.

  1. Mow the lawn. Even if the grass doesn’t need it, if weeds are going crazy cutting the lawn will remove portions of the weeds to include flowers and seeds and help to reduce their growth.
  2. Apply a pre-emergent herbicide. This will help stop new seeds from germinating and has shown to also slow the growth of existing weeds.
  3. Apply a liquid post-emergent herbicide like Spectracide, Bayer Advanced, or Image. I find Spectracide works best on broad leaf weeds, Bayer Advaced works best on Crabgrass, and Image is the best at killing Nutsedge. Spectricide is the cheapest but it’s worth paying for one of the others if you have a particular issue with crab grass or Nutsedge. Also look at the ten day forecast when you do this and make sure it’s dry for a few days so that the herbicide isn’t immediately washed out.

I wouldn’t recommend putting down fertilizer quite yet as lawns are still experiencing reduced growth for the most part from the winter. If you tackle the weeds now though your lawn will be ready to take off when we start really getting into Spring.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

I would rate it 7/10 using my scale below.

10 – Masterpiece. 1-2 movies a year might get this rating.
9 – Great movie but just falling short of perfect in some way.
8 – One of the best of it’s genre or medium.
7 – A great experience that I would recommend to anyone.
6 – An enjoyable experience, usually reserved for things that are trash that I really loved.
5 – Somewhat enjoyable experience but I would only recommend it to someone if it matched their tastes.
4 – Not enjoyable; has some redeeming aspects but ultimately disappointed.
3 – Terrible. Would want money back from theater.
2 – Terrible. Would want time back.
1 – Terrible. Couldn’t finish.
